Year 4 Athletics

Every Wednesday the year 4s do athletics with people from Sport Wanganui. We do throwing, catching, skipping, jumping, hopping, dodging and sometimes we do a sack race. It is really fun because you learn and exercise at the same time! Next week we are doing an assessment over everything we have learnt.

Drama

Every week we get a poem that we have to do a dramatic interpretation on the poem. This is the poem that we had to do.
                                                                                 Storm
A storm is coming.
The hot wind carries,
a whisper of thunder.
The trees are anxious,
they call to one another.
"Wrap up tight!
Hold onto your leaves"
The wind is changing.
Fat chilly puffs squeeze
under the door.
"The cold is coming!" They shriek
through the cracks in the floor.
The chimney roars,
"Light the fire! Light the fire!"
Then the sky cracks open.

Holiday Readers!!!!

In the holidays some kids at our school read books in the holidays. The ones who read the most books or the hardest book got to go to mini putt and play at the park!!! First we did the mini putt. I was in a group with Nikita, Sam, George and Chloe. It was super fun and I came 2nd equal. After that we all walked over to the park and had lunch. We then went and played in the park. I went on the merry go round and I almost fell off!!! I had a superb time at mini putt and the park. It was awesome to get away from work at school!

Ingredients

6 Books

1 Old House

2 Mean Parents

2 Nasty  Older Sisters

1 Small Tv

3 Comfy Couches

 

Method

Take 2 mean parents. Add 2 nasty  older sisters. Knead well. Place  in  dish to form crust. Heat oven to 20 degrees. Place crust in oven.

In a bowl pour the old house. Add 6 books. Make sure there are no dust covers on  books. Chop 3 comfy couches. Chop 1 small, 1 medium and 1 large. Mix well. Add dry small T.V. Take crust out of oven. Pour the mixture into the crust . Serve hot. Enjoy!

 

 

Back to School

We've just come back to school from the holidays and I am flabbergasted!!! It is exhausting having to go back to school. Lots and lots of hard work is tiring me out. I am DESTROYED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am still enjoying doing lots of work. My desk is very messy and I am tired. We are doing lots of hard work. I can't wait until the holidays again.

Hockey!!!

Every Wednesday our hockey team, The Fordell Blues, plays hockey for 30 minutes. There are about 12 teams in the tournament so there is a fairly good chance that we will win. Yesterday we played for 3rd and 4th against Gonville. We really wanted to come 3rd!!

We all played very well and the final score was 4-3 to us!!!! "We came 3rd in the tournament" I shouted. My heart was pounding with excitement. We couldn't believe it!! Well done Fordell Blues!

How many teeth do snails have?

How many teeth do snails have? It is believed that an average snail has 25000 teeth. It may seem quite unlikely but it is actually 100% true. I read it in the book 'how to avoid a wombats bum.' You should read it to!!

Mathex

On Wednesday some clever mathematicians went to mathex. Mathex is a competition were teams of 4 compete by answering 20 questions in the given amount of time. The given amount of time is 30 minutes but if someone answers all 20 questions correctly in 30 minutes then they would have stopped the clock. If you pass and you complete all the other questions you cannot go back to the passed question, you have to wait until either somebody stops the clock or the 30 minutes is up. I was in the year 5 age group and we got up to the last question but we just couldn't figure it out. We were panicking because we had been on the last question for 10 minutes and in the end we never got it. We were very nervous to hear the results and the man said that the winner was Fordell!!!! That's my team. So we won mathex. I had a very good time that night. Well done Fordell mathex team!!!

The Bumblebee

The bumblebee is not just a black and yellow insect that stings people. It is actually a very fascinating insect.
Firstly because it flies. To fly it flexes its wings and flaps them so fast that it buzzes.
Secondly because they live very close. They live in New Zealand and Australia. They live in hives and in those hives they make honey.
Lastly its predators are badgers, birds and skunks. Skunks stink, I can see how bumblebees don't like them. To get away from its predators they hide in flowers. Then they fly from flower to flower collecting nectar. The nectar is used to make honey.
As I said bumblebees are very nice insects. They still sting though.

My Be Funky

This is my Be Funky. They are like pictures that Andy Warhol painted. He is a good painter. He painted pictures like the ones that we made. He painted lots of pop stars and then was known as a pop artist. Here is one of his paintings and mine!


The House Challenge

Last Friday we had a house challenge. The houses are Kowhai, Tawa and Miro. Kowhai is yellow, Tawa is blue and Miro is green. I am in Kowhai. We had some big shields. They were all equally amazing but in the end someone had to win. That house was........ Kowhai. Well done Kowhai!!!!

The Birds At The Museum

Today we went to Wanganui Regional Museum. We looked at birds and how they fly. There was a huge moa bone. One of the birds only had one eye. We had a worksheet to complete. We had to draw a bird. Mine was alright. Then we went upstairs to the bug room. There were disgusting bugs everywhere. I learnt that the kereru doesn't fly straight. I can't wait until the next time I go to the museum.
